Appetizer

An appetizer is a dish served at the beginning of lunch or dinner or as a standalone dish. Appetizers are also served with alcoholic beverages. Most appetizers are prepared quickly.

Appetizers can be made from raw, unprocessed products such as vegetables, fruits, or berries. Alternatively, the ingredients of appetizers can be pre-processed: boiled, smoked, or baked. Appetizers can be hot - for example, julienne. Or cold - salads or sandwiches. Cold appetizers are more often served at the table.

Appetizers appeared in Europe in the 18th century. At that time, the "open sandwich table" was popular in Sweden. It was served with bread and everything that could be spread or placed on it: butter, honey, cottage cheese, vegetables, cold meat, fish, etc.
