What is an aperitif

An aperitif is a drink served at the table before a meal to stimulate the appetite. The term "aperitif" comes from the Latin verb aperīre - "to open".

Necessary tools

To serve an aperitif at the table, you can use glasses, champagne coupes, cocktail glasses, and tumblers. The choice of vessels depends on the type of drink. Bitter liqueurs can be served in shots. A shaker may also be needed for mixing cocktails.

Suitable drinks

Vermouths, bitter liqueurs, and cocktails can serve as aperitifs. Alcoholic aperitifs often have a slightly bitter taste and contain herbs and spices.

How to serve it properly

Serve the aperitif in a vessel that suits the drink. Optionally, you can combine alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. For example, a liqueur in a shot and water in a glass with ice. Light snacks can also be served with the aperitif: olives, almonds, cheese, fruit canapés.
